Troubleshooting / FAQ

This FAQ covers the most common issues and quick fixes for the FourYourSafety (FYS) Chrome Extension.

General Questions

❓ Why isn’t the extension showing up?
  • Make sure the extension is installed and enabled in Chrome.

  • Check the Extensions menu in Chrome (puzzle icon → Manage Extensions).

  • If it’s disabled, flip the toggle back on.

❓ Do I need to be on Twitter/X for it to work?

Yes.

The extension only activates when you’re viewing a profile on x.com. If you’re browsing elsewhere, the extension is not active and doesn't run.

❓ How do I check if my license is authorized?
  • Open the extension popup.

  • Look for “License Active” under the status section.

  • If it says inactive, re-enter your key in the settings panel.

  • Still not working? Try logging out and back in again.

❓ My extension stopped working after an update. What now?
  • Remove and reinstall the extension:

Remove the extension.

Go to chrome://extensions/ and remove FourYourSafety.

Reinstall from the Chrome Web Store (or GitHub release page if testing).

Re-login with your API key/license and ensure the extension is toggled ON.

❓ I don’t see anything happening on X profiles.
  • Confirm you are logged in to X.

  • Reload the profile page once.

  • Make sure you’re not in Incognito (unless you’ve enabled extensions there).

  • Sometimes, clearing browser cache helps.

❓ Does this extension store my personal data?

No. All tracking happens via the API. The tracking logic is open-source and only utilizes X data.

Your personal browsing data is not collected or sold. Furthermore, extensions in chrome run in sandbox, meaning that it cannot access data or interfere with any application or browser tab outside of what it's designated for (x.com).

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Refresh First → 90% of problems vanish with a simple page refresh.

  • Update Chrome → Extensions run best on the latest version.

  • Reboot Chrome → The classic “turn it off and on again.”

  • Incognito Mode → If using Incognito, allow extensions in Chrome settings.

If you make one change, try a page refresh before doing anything more involved.

Small Fix-It

When to Contact Support

Contact Support via the Support page inside the extension if you experience:

  • Repeated license activation failures

  • Deleted tweets or profile changes not appearing despite being on X

  • Extension crashing Chrome (rare)

Reminder: The extension only wakes up on x.com profiles. If you’re expecting it to work on YouTube or Google, it won’t.
